Aniracetam was developed in the late 1970s and is 2 to 5 times more potent than the original nootropic, piracetam. The slight structural difference means aniracetam acts faster.
Animal Studies on Aniracetam
In aniracetam studies on animals, it was found to help memory impairment in rats (Martin et al, 1995). This study took place over the course of a year and the results were consistent across multiple test sessions.
Another study focused on the antidepressant effects of aniracetam on older rats (Nakamura, 2001). The rats experienced fewer symptoms of anxiety and depression after the aniracetam was administered, possibly because it had a positive effect on dopamine and serotonin levels.
